A great bunch of vital people attended our District Conference for 2008/9 which was held at Joondalup Civic Centre last month.
Photos taken at the conference can be found in our Photo Gallery...
Sustainability was the primary focus with speakers from many walks of life who have dedicated themselves to making a difference to the community. Issues discussed included:
- New Rotary Projects eg Angels project
- Climate Change
- Aboriginal Culture and relationship to their environment
- Healthy living with appropriate eating and exercise
- Aboriginal youth leadership, mentoring and education projects
- Peace Scholarships and Ambassadorial Scholarships
- Group Study Exchange students from Texas
The days were full with plenty of time for sharing around the table at meals, and wandering around the stalls to get a glimpse of the work of Rotary both locally and internationally... Cord Blood, Shelter Box, ROMAC, Wheelchairs for kids and so on.
And to cap it off... a pleasant evening dinner with good music and good fellowship... awards to exemplary Rotarians... and some fine students showing us their public speaking skills which also demonstrated the intelligence and capability of our upcoming youth.
So where to from here...! Well lets get fitter, trimmer, and do the things we said we would do...!
Oh... and for those of you who didn't make it... next year will be a bit barren for conferences in District 9450, so take a look at the advert below for Rotary's International Centenial Convention next year...
